FUNDAMENTALS OF DEVELOPMENT FINANCE
A Practitioner's Guide
First published in 1983 by Praeger (later under Greenwood Press and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt), Fundamentals of Development Finance was for over twenty years a highly regarded guide for using private and public capital to fund risky projects in economically distressed cities. It was also served as a textbook at prestigious universities, such as the University of Virginia, for innovative graduate-level courses spanning the fields of finance and urban planning. The author helped design some courses, based on her book, and was a guest lecturer at others.
The author realized there was an urgent need for such a book while Director of Research and Technical Assistance at the Council for Urban Economic Development (now the International Economic Development Council). After founding Richards Development Company, she wrote Fundamentals of Development Finance and incorporated her own experiences in undertaking commercial and industrial real estate projects in Washington, D.C.
